Sandblasting stone and brick FAQ

Q: Can sandblasting remove paint and cement or lime staining from stone and brickwork without damaging its integrity?

A: Absolutely. However, a delicate touch is essential when dealing with old masonry and brickwork in particular.
That's why we use Quill Falcon’s precision dustless wet blasting system. We can alter the air, water and grit mix, ensuring a fully controllable process applying only the appropriate abrasion to the surface we are working on.
The addition of water keeps dust to a minimum and allows good visibility, so the operator can see when the desired finish is achieved and move on without gauging the surface.

Q: Can removing paint and cement based render from exterior walls help with damp problems?

A. Yes. Layers of old paint and render can prevent masonry from breathing [expelling moisture through evaporation], and rising damp from the ground can become trapped in the wall and manifest on the inside of the building.
Removing these elements and sandblasting then either re-painting with a modern, breathable paint or leaving as bare masonry can make a big difference without the need for a lot of internal disruption.
This is also a good opportunity to renew the old pointing if it is found to be in a bad state .
We offer a re-pointing service and we can also replace perished or damaged stone/brickwork.

Q.Will I need to protect windows and doors during the sandblasting process?

A. Windows and doors will need to be protected and in particular if we are working on the reveals.
We can template the openings with 3mm ply and pin in place or you can arrange for this to be in place prior to our attendance.

Q.Can your sandblasting system be used to remove graffiti from brickwork and stone walls.

A. Yes. Thanks to our fully controllable sandblasting operation we can effectively remove graffiti without damaging the original surface.
